Do you wish that you could communicate better with others? Or that others would understand you more? Do you want to get your needs met in your relationships? You can! With skills learned through the Nonviolent Communication or Compassionate Communication model.

In this episode, Kathy Ziola, a certified trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication, discusses the four key components or curiosities of Nonviolent / Compassionate Communication: Observation, Feelings, Needs, Requests. She also talks about the importance of empathy in communication and provides the listeners with how compassionate communication looks like with an impromptu role play exercise with Peggy.

Communication is key in any relationship. We all are just trying to get our needs met. If we start with the facts, acknowledge our feelings, understand the need we have, and can ask for what will meet our need in a respectful, empathic way, communication and the response to it will be much improved.
Often conflicts arise at the level of strategies, which are the actions we take to meet the need we have. There are many ways or strategies to getting our needs met. Getting curious and having positive intentions and assumptions can improve the chances of our needs being met.

Feeling Blah: Part 2

Wednesday Feb 26, 2025

Wednesday Feb 26, 2025

Last week I talked about feeling blah. There is more to feeling blah than taking care of our physical being and managing the day to day life. It can be a result of deeper, unnoticed factors.
In today's episode, I will share 5 subtle yet powerful reasons that may be contributing to that drained, uninspired feeling of blah including:
1. Holding back or playing small
2. Not Speaking Your Truth
3. Not Asking for What You Need
4. Feeling Emotionally Detached
5. Not Knowing Why

If you’re experiencing that “blah” feeling, it’s important to acknowledge not only how you are taking care of yourself, but also these deeper more subtle causes that may be influencing your mood.
Are you holding back or playing small?
Are you speaking your truth?
Are you asking for what you need or want?
Are you emotionally detached?
Do you know why you are doing what you are doing?

The key to breaking free from this blah state is to reconnect with your authentic self, voice your truth and your needs, shine your light, feel the day and find the deeper meaning and purpose in what you do. By taking small steps toward embracing who you truly are, you will soon find that spark of passion and energy you’ve been missing and you will start living with more vibrancy and joy.

Wednesday Feb 19, 2025

Have you ever been in one of those funks where you just are feeling off or blah? A period of time lasting a few days to a few weeks, that it’s hard to get motivated to do much? Or the enjoyment of doing things isn’t there? Or it just seems like you are going through the motions? Doing the same thing day in and day out? Is it ground hogs’ day on repeat? Is it the winter Blues? Or something else?

In this episode, I will share with you the 10+ areas of my life I evaluate when I am feeling blah or off to see how I am taking care of myself and how those same aspects are the solution for feeling more alive, more connected, more energized and more productive.
The areas of my life I evaluate when I am feeling blah:
• Sleep
• Exercise
• Food
• Hydration
• Breathing

5 Love Languages

Wednesday Feb 12, 2025

Wednesday Feb 12, 2025

As Valentine’s Day approaches, love is in the air. What is the secret to love that lasts? According to Gary Chapman, it’s knowing your love language as well as your partner or spouse’s love language.

In today’s episode, I will explain the 5 Love languages related to couples in relationships from his book, The 5 Love Languages: The Secret To Love That Lasts.
The 5 Love Languages according to Gary Chapman are:
Words of Affirmation
Quality Time
Receiving Gifts
Acts of Service
Physical Touch
Learning the right love language is key to helping your spouse or partner feel loved AND you will reap the benefits as you will also feel loved in return. The need to feel emotionally loved is universal. To feel loved is a primary human emotional need.
When your emotional love tank or bank account is full, you act differently. It is as important in a marriage to keep your love tank full as it is to keep your gas tank full of gas or having money in your bank account. It keeps you going.
So this Valentines Day, understand not only your primary love language but also your spouse or partner’s primary love language then act on what would fill their love tank or love account. If you do, your love tank or love account will be full. Your life will be positively transformed.

Moms Eat First--Book Summary

Wednesday Feb 05, 2025

Wednesday Feb 05, 2025

Moms Eat First by Kathy Sullivan is about Moms being aware of how often they put the needs of others ahead of their own, operating on autopilot, going through each day without prioritizing themselves and what is important to them.
She starts out the book with 20 life lessons she has learned over the years. All of which are very relatable. I myself have learned many of these over the years, some, multiple times.
Then she goes on to list 5 key principles to prioritize yourself and create the change in life you desire. The 5 key principles to prioritize yourself are:
Reflection is the key to self-preservation
Rediscovering possibilities is essential to feeding your soul
It is never too late to reset priorities based on what is important to you
Amid adversity you can reclaim power through choice
Peace prevails when you release what you can't control
With all these principles, the author provides a number of reflective questions and space for you to journal about them that will help you gain the clarity you need to recognize, proclaim and take action towards living the life you desire.
It is not merely a book of information, this book, Moms Eat First, is part workbook. It gives you the space to reflect, rediscover, reset, reclaim and release what doesn’t serve you and what will help you live the life you desire.
